Clear Aligners in Prospect

Clear aligners use a series of custom-made, removable trays to move teeth gradually. A consultation will tell you whether aligners suit your teeth and your goals.

What are clear aligners?

Clear aligners are custom-made, removable appliances that move teeth gradually over time. You wear a series of aligners, each slightly different, following a treatment plan tailored to your teeth.

Who may benefit from clear aligners?

Clear aligners may suit people with:

  • Mild to moderate crowding
  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Minor bite concerns
  • Teeth that have shifted over time

Not every orthodontic concern can be treated with aligners. Your dentist will discuss whether aligners or another option is appropriate.

Things to consider

  • Progress depends on wearing your aligners as instructed.
  • Mild pressure or discomfort is common when you start a new aligner and usually settles within a few days.
  • Treatment time varies. Some patients need extra refinement aligners.
  • Retainers are generally recommended afterwards to help stop teeth moving back.
  • Small tooth-coloured attachments or minor enamel reshaping may be needed to help teeth move.

Questions

Clear aligner FAQs

Is everyone suitable for clear aligners?

No. Suitability depends on your oral health and how complex your concerns are.

How long does treatment take?

It varies with the complexity of your case and your treatment plan.

Do I need to wear the aligners every day?

Yes. Your dentist will tell you how many hours a day to wear them. Wearing them less than instructed can slow progress.

Will I need a retainer afterwards?

Retainers are generally recommended to help maintain the new position of your teeth.

Do I need a consultation first?

Yes. A consultation is needed to work out whether aligners are right for you.
