Dental Veneers in Prospect

Veneers are thin, tooth-coloured coverings bonded to the front of teeth to change their colour, shape or size. A consultation lets us assess your oral health and discuss whether veneers suit your goals.

What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers are thin coverings bonded to the front surface of teeth to improve their appearance. They may be recommended for suitable patients who want to address tooth colour, shape, size or minor spacing. Not everyone is suitable for veneers. Recommendations are based on a comprehensive dental assessment.

Porcelain and composite veneers

The two types have different appearance and wear characteristics. Your dentist will recommend the most suitable option for your oral health and goals.

What can veneers help with?

Depending on your circumstances, veneers may improve the appearance of:

  • Discoloured teeth
  • Chipped or worn teeth
  • Minor gaps between teeth
  • Uneven tooth shapes
  • Teeth that look slightly irregular

Your dentist will discuss whether veneers or another option, such as whitening or clear aligners, is more appropriate. → Links: Teeth Whitening | Clear Aligners

Things to consider before choosing veneers

  • Porcelain veneers usually require removing a small amount of enamel. Enamel doesn’t grow back, so this is generally irreversible.
  • Some patients have temporary sensitivity after treatment.
  • Veneers can chip, crack or come loose, especially if you grind or clench your teeth.
  • Veneers aren’t lifetime restorations and may need repair or replacement over time.

Dental veneers FAQs

Are veneers suitable for everyone?

No. Suitability depends on your oral health, the condition of your teeth and your goals.

Do I need a consultation first?

Yes. A consultation lets your dentist assess your oral health and decide whether veneers or another option is appropriate.

What's the difference between composite and porcelain veneers?

Composite veneers are made from tooth-coloured resin and bonded directly to your teeth, often in one appointment. Porcelain veneers are custom-made using CEREC or in a lab, then bonded. They differ in appearance and wear.

Can veneers be combined with other treatments?

In some cases veneers form part of a broader cosmetic plan.

How long do veneers last?

Veneers aren't permanent. They may need maintenance, repair or replacement over time.
